Rediscover a collective industrial culture
Context
Our client is a worldwide shipyard specialist. It designs and builds boats mainly for the energy and tourism sectors. With more than 7,000 employees, the company is present on 3 continents: Americas, Asia, Europe.
The challenge
As an international group, there are sometimes significant cultural differences between management and the operational teams, which are mainly made up of engineers. A sudden acceleration in staff turnover, combined with a more competitive environment, meant that our client had to transform its corporate culture and rediscover a positive team spirit.
The solution
The multicultural transformation project was led by a team of experienced Spirit Advisors (engineers and facilitators).
We began by going out into the field to listen to the the stakeholders. We then organised a series of workshops to list the changes and relearn how to work together.
An in-depth dialogue was set up with the unions, a network of ambassadors was created, a roadmap was defined to make the organisation and workspace more flexible, and more fluid internal communication was structured, all the while engaging management at each phase of the transformation.
The impact
It takes around 5 years to develop the skills of a qualified engineer in this very specific industrial sector.
The significant reduction in staff turnover and the better understanding of the various stakeholders have therefore had a major impact on the company’s culture and overall performance.
